Frederic François Chopin (originally Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin; March 1, 1810 – October 17, 1849) was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the Romantic era. He was one of the few musical child prodigies, and during his short life he composed many popular piano pieces. Chopin adopted his French name when he moved to Paris at the age of 20.
